Details

Two concerts by the Balthasar Neumann Chor & Ensemble, held on 13 and 14 February, will provide a culmination of the artistic residency that the ensembles—founded and led by Thomas Hengelbrock—will undertake in Barcelona over the week preceding the concerts. This is one of the most iconic projects in the 2023-24 season at the Palau. Members of the ensembles will be able to participate in cultural life in Barcelona through open rehearsals, and through educational and charity chamber concerts in institutions. In addition, exhaustive work will be carried out in collaboration with the Orfeó Català and the Palau Cor de Cambra chamber choir, in response to requests from Hengelbrock himself. In the company of the Palau choirs, they will perform two major symphonic and choral works from German Romanticism: A German requiem by Brahms and Symphony No. 2, "Lobgesang" by Mendelssohn. It should be noted that the concerts at the Palau will be followed by an international trip to Hamburg by both Palau choirs, where they will perform the same repertoire for the first time with German ensembles at the Laeiszhalle (17/02/24) and at the Elbphilharmonie (18/02/24).
