Cor Jove del Orfeó Català

Part of the Escola Coral of the Orfeó Català, it is made up of singers aged from sixteen to twenty-five. It was founded in 1986 and conducted by Conxita Garcia for the first sixteen years, while Esteve Nabona is now the conductor and Josep Buforn the pianist.

It has worked with the OBC, Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, The Sexteen Orchestra, Ensemble Pygmalion, Orquestra Barroca Catalana and Orquestra de Cambra Terrassa 48, among others. It has also worked with prestigious conductors including Harry Christophers and Raphaël Pichon. It has performed around the Catalan-speaking lands, as well as in Spain, Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Holland.

In 2010 it recorded the CD Aigües de primavera and in 2013 the CD Requiems de Mozart i de Fauré for Columna Musica. During the 2014-15 season the Cor Jove performed on the soundtrack of The Lord of the Rings by Howard Shore together with the Cor Infantil of the Orfeó Català and the Cor Jove dels Països Catalans, in the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona Nacional de Catalunya season.

Esteve Nabona, director

He has been conductor of the Ars Subtilior chamber choir (1986-1992), Cor Albada de l’Agrupació Cor Madrigal (1995-2007), Ensemble Vocal Cambra 16 (1998-2005) and the Ramon Llull university choir (2006-2012). Between 2000 and 2006 he held the position of assistant conductor of the Cor de Cambra of the Palau de la Música Catalana. He currently combines the jobs of conducting the Cor Jove of the Orfeó Català and the Cor Jove dels Països Catalans. He is also the director of the Escola Coral of the Orfeó Català and of the Clavé XXI community education project, which brings choral singing to organisations and schools in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona.

In his career as a conductor, he has given concerts around the Catalan-speaking lands, Castile, the Basque Country, Portugal, France, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. He has also run various choral workshops around Catalonia, Chile, the Canary Islands, Andalusia and Asturias. He has conducted ensembles including the Orquestra de Cambra Terrassa 48, the Orquestra Barroca Catalana, the Ensemble Instrumental Cambra 16, Ars Musicae of Mallorca and the Russian Chamber Orchestra of Saint Petersburg.
